The venue is an historic building, owned by the Irish Missionaries Society. Set in 100 acres of beautiful woodland with walled gardens and access to the sea, it's located outside Leap in West Cork and has been used as a community and retreat centre since the 1970's. It is currently being run by Green Skibbereen with the intention of establishing it as a Centre for Excellence for Climate Action & Sustainability (CECAS).
We will be meeting at 10.30am for a an introduction to Mushroom Hunting from Bill O'Dea. We will then forage for mushrooms for about 2 hours. This will be followed by identification of our find, and cooking of edible mushrooms. Numbers of participants are limited to 20.
Meet at 10.30am. Introduction to the Wonderful World of Mushrooms- Bill O'Dea. This is an informative and amusing presentation on all aspects of fungi with the emphasis on identifying edible and toxic mushrooms.
11.30am Mushroom Foray around the mixed woodlands at Myross.
1.00 pm Return to House for further identification, cooking of edibles and a cup of delicious mushroom soup.People should bring their own packed lunch.
Finish about 3PM.
We would expect to find over 50 different types of mushrooms on the day. The terrain is suitable for all levels of fitness. Participants should wear walking shoes and outdoor clothing. Also, please bring a basket or cloth bag for collecting mushrooms.
