We are looking forward to doing a Mushroom Hunt with Slow Food Ireland near Glenmalure in Co. Wicklow. This event is open to everyone, not just slow food members. We will be basing ourselves at Hermione Winter's house near Glenmalure. I will provide directions to all participants closer to the day.
We will be meeting at 11am for a brief introduction to Mushroom Hunting from Bill O'Dea. We will then forage for mushrooms for about 2 hours. This will be followed by identification of our find, and cooking of edible mushrooms. Our mission for the day is to identify what we are looking for, find some, and taste some.
Agenda
Meet at car park at 11am. People will need to travel by their own means. Exact directions will be given closer to the date.
Return to Hermione's house at 1pm for further identification and cooking of edibles and a bowl of Magic(tasting that is, not psychoactive) Mushroom soup.
Finish about 3.00PM.
We would expect to find over 50 different types of mushrooms on the day. The terrain is suitable for all levels of fitness. Participants should wear walking shoes and outdoor clothing. Also, please bring a basket or cloth bag for collecting mushrooms.
